Last night was our quarterly Special District Advisory Committee meeting for Sac LAFCo (County of Sacramento Local Agency Formation Commission). The main topic of discussion was the City of Elk Grove’s application for a sphere of influence amendment.
The area that the City is trying to obtain is currently served by the Cosumnes CSD. But apparently the CSD hasn’t weighed in on the proposal. Are they for or against? You would think someone would have a stance on this issue as the potential new city limits would overlap the CSD boundaries.
A friend of mine (Michelle Orrock) is running for the board of the CSD. You can visit her website here: http://www.michelleorrock.com/

Things are moving when it comes to flood protection for Sacramento. The United States Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, has awarded the second contract for the construction of an auxiliary spillway at Folsom Dam.
What is the auxiliary spillway? It’s a mechanism to release more water quicker, and at an earlier stage from Folsom Dam. This reduces the threat of overtopping of the dam and allows us to use weather forecasting to release water in anticipation of severe storm/rainfall events. In summary: when the spillway is complete Sacramento will be better protected from a costly and dangerous flood.
